Jennifer Meihofer Photography
As an interfaith minister and a holistic practitioner, I have studied a variety of spiritual disciplines. My interest lies in that which connects us to a greater level of consciousness and harmony. Whether I’m photographing landscapes or individuals, flowers or something other, my goal is to be fully present and find the universal messages that move us to a greater awareness and to contemplate the mystical aspects of our existence. To be awake, to remember ourselves and to reconnect with our infinite nature, this is the heart of all true teaching. This is what I strive for in my daily life and this is the motivation that I bring to my images. It is not enough to merely bear witness, but to understand the essence of what we perceive with clarity of vision.
A great image transcends all the tricks and rigors of technology. To me the camera is a tool. Before we can use the tool effectively we must first know how to see. The Images themselves dictate whether they aught be B&W or Color, manipulated or straight up. The message they convey is what is most important to me. I currently shoot in the digital format now because it allows me to spend more time on the essence of the images, and less time amidst darkness and chemicals.
Jennifer Meihofer has been a photographer for the past 20 years. Although fine art photography is where here current photographic energies lie, her earlier professional years were primarily dedicated to portrait and wedding photography. Still life, commercial, and newspaper photography made their way into her portfolio as well. Additionally she spent two years as a photo restorer using Photoshop when it was a new phenomenon.
Jennifer began her photographic education with an adult education BOCES course. She had furthered her experience through her studies at Long Island University in Southampton. Additionally she studied film making at the New York Film Academy. Hands on experience has always been the cornerstone of her development as a photographer. Working as a camera lithographer for a printing company, and a photo technician at a variety of Camera Stores, Jennifer’s understanding of film and imaging was further developed. Assisting other various professionals in the field had also helped her glean insights into the art of her craft. In addition she has also been a staff photographer for “Dan’s Papers”, “The Pass”, and the owner and publisher of “The Directory of Holistic Practices” as well as freelancing for a variety of other publications.
Her Images have been published in “Dan’s Papers” – (Cover and write up), “The Southampton Press” (Front page of Art Section- interview and write up), “Spa Magazine”, “The East Hampton Star”, “Newsday”, “The Pass”, “The Directory of Holistic Practices” and a number of publications for private organizations.
She has shown with The Southampton Artist, The East End Arts Council, Photographers East, East End Photographers Group, and the Guild Hall. Other exhibits include Westhampton Public Library, Riverhead Library, The Mattituck Theater, The Love Lane Coffee House, The Crazy Monkey Gallery, The Sand Piper Gallery and Hampton Photo Arts and Prudential Real Estate.
